- China Mobile recently announced that Arab's leading telecom operator Omantel joined the GTI (Global TD-LTE Initiative), under which the company will collaborate with other telecom operators worldwide to working on the development of the TD-LTE (Time Division-Long Term Evolution) ecosystem, the Sina Tech News reported on June 14. The GTI was jointly founded by China Mobile, has members including Vodafone, Clearwire, Bharti Airtel, Softbank Mobile, Aero2 and E-Plus at the GSMA (Global System Mobile Association) conference in Barcelona early in 2011, with an aim to ensure the interoperability among LTE-related technologies. In 2011, China Mobile has begun promoting China's TD-LTE technology, the successor to FDD-LTE (Frequency Division Duplex-LTE) technology, in ten countries worldwide. Omantel stated that the company's second TD-LTE demonstration network trial was capable of reaching a data transmission speed of 100Mbps, according to the same source.

Meanwhile, China Mobile and the Anhui provincial government entered into a strategic agreement, whereby China Mobile agreed to earmark 30 billion RMB (US$4.6 billion; US$1 = 6.5 RMB) for the deployment of a wireless network infrastructure in the Anhui province within the next five years, with the support of the government, the Sina Tech News reported on June 17. China Mobile stated that the company will set up one million Wi-Fi (Wireless-Fidelity) access hotspots in the said province.
